Dr Naveed Patel & Team Helping With Refugees in Greater Manchester

It has been our absolute pleasure here at Precision Dental Clinic to work alongside Manchester refugee Support Network to help some of the most vulnerable people that are new to our society. Having fled war torn countries and trying to make a new life for their families, dental problems should be the least of their concern, this is why we decided to help. Here is what the charity had to say…

“Following the Afghanistan withdrawal, Manchester Refugee Support Network (MRSN) was flooded with new refugees requiring urgent dental work, many told the charity they were in agonising pain, and it was impacting their mental health. Facing unprecedented demand to assist the refugees with medical services, MRSN requested help from several dental surgeries, the charity was either ignored or rejected. The team feared that they wouldn’t find be able to find a solution to help those in relentless pain.

Giving up weekends over the last few months, Dr Naveed Patel and his team at Stockport based Precision Dental Clinic answered the call to action from MRSN and have donated many hours worth of life changing treatment.

From educating refugee children aged just 3 years on how to clean their teeth properly to elderly patients who had given up any hope on having any restorative dental work, Dr Naveed and his team provided definitive dental solutions. The dental work included, permanent fillings, gum cleaning and dental bridges for those with missing teeth, enabling them to smile with confidence and eat without fear of causing further dental damage. The team also issues oral hygiene instructions, toothbrush instructions, oral health care packs, mouthwash, and toothpaste to every patient, for many refugees this was the first time holding a toothbrush.

MRSN have also had a pledge from Dr Naveed that he and his team will continue to donate time and resources with planned future cosmetic solutions to increase some of the refugee’s confidence, as they build a life in their new country. On finding dental support for their refugees Manchester Refugee Support Network said, “We cannot thank Dr Naveed and his team for the work they have done, the compassion they have shown to refugees & asylum seekers who in many cases, had lost all hope of receiving any form of dental work. It has been such a relief to finally have a solution for our desperate clients and the sacrifice and care that Dr Naveed and his team have demonstrated is beyond what we at MRSN could’ve ever imagined.”

On working with MRSN to provide the life saving dental treatment, Dr Naveed Patel said, “For many registered patients, getting a dentist appointment is tough enough presently, let alone if you’ve just fled from another country. I’ve been more than happy to support MRSN in their work and help as many refugees as me and my team could see. The hours of our time is worth it when you’re seeing someone be relieved of crippling pain or smile with confidence for the first time in their life and I hope the treatment we’ve given goes some way in helping the refugees settle into their new home.”
